The Read With Me program improves children's reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to a dog. But not just any dog. Read With Me dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handler as a team, going to schools, libraries, and many other settings as reading companions for children.
Be a part of the Prescription, the Rx: Pets prescription. Join in on the reading fun! Rx: Pets has expanded their community efforts to include the highly successful Read With Me programs improve the literacy skills of children and especially assists with self-esteem issues or learning challenges. Reading to a dog is non-judgmental and so much fun!
Rx: Pets has several Pet Partner Teams who are also Read With Me in Redding, Red Bluff, Shingletown and Eureka. The program is active in many schools and Libraries. If you would like to become an Rx: Pets Visiting Team, the place to start is the Becoming A Therapy Team tab on this site.
Read With Me is at the Redding Library on the Third Saturday of each Month Except August and December.
